WHACKING KIDS NO GOOD
By Claire Marketos

'Smacking kids to be outlawed.' (Sunday Times, July 8)- why, you may be asking. Because research shows smacking doesn't change children's negative behaviour.

Smacking does encourage aggressive behaviour in children by perpetuating the cycle of violence, which is already an epidemic in South Africa.

Smacking also lowers a child's self esteem and IQ, and stunts their problem solving abilities.(Sunday Times, July 15, 2007)
