SET YOUR KIDS FREE-SAY 'NO' TO HOMEWORK
By Claire Marketos
I agree with Jonathan Jansen's comments that we assign children homework without stopping to question whether homework is in fact beneficial.
Most homework is boring work in which the children have no interest.
Making children spend time doing things in which they are not interested just because it has always been done, does not lead to excellence.
Children are far better off pursing what interests them during their free time. They need time to interact with their families, be themselves and think if they are to be happy, independent and creative, individuals.
If we fill their every moment with work, is there any wonder our children are anxious and stressed? We need to stand together and say "NO" to homework.
While we might not be able to change policy overnight, we can do it over time. All it take is one parent at a time. Vote NO to homework.
