What did you do to help your child manage his/her anxiety on the first day of school?

Hi, I always start giving rescue and tissue salt number 6 days before, have taught my boys 14/16 to take deep breathes and hold for a few counts, they can do this without anybody noticing, clasping the hands together releases a natural relaxing hormone, a hand massage before bed works to relax them, i try have everything prepared so first day is not rushed and unpredictable,, pray as they leave the house for protection against negative people,, :)

Thanks Barbs useful tips. Generally I recommend that children are given the tools to deal with anxiety and stress without taking something even if it is rescue remedy. If they can calm themselves without taking anything I believe they will do this when they are adults as well. Obviously if the stress or anxiety is chronic then even medication may be necessary but obviously only under the guidance of a physician.
