Hi all out there, I am needing some guidence. My Sister in Law,has a 10yr old Downs son.Unfortunately there is not much in terms of support or education in Mauritus and she is now seeking options in SA. Does anyone know of any boarding establishments that cater for "learning disability children" in SA, alternatively, what are the other options for us in SA if he needed to stay with me.

Dear Charlene

Thank you for posting.

While there may be limited resources in Mauritius,I would advise against separating the mother and child even if you are prepared to look after your nephew in South Africa. I would recommend that the mother research all available resources locally and through the internet, so that she can devise a programme with professionals that works towards inclusion in a local school, or for a homeschool programme.

The following website should be useful:

Regards

Claire
