Neurological assessment request from teacher

The parent posing the question regarding her gut feel that there is no problem with her child despite the teacher requesting an assessment once again highlights the misunderstandings - and (almost) abusive practices suggested by educators who do not fully understand another possibility for this type of behaviour. Once again I feel it apposite to point out that where there are obvious signs of boredom due to exceptional ability the fact that you may be dealing with a highly capable learner must be considered. Gifted children, however, do NOT do everything well - in fact asynchronicity (good in one thing not so good at another) is common to them and to many children in the first years of school. The challenge is to get the educator to extend the child in those areas where he has competencies and accept that he may need assistance to catch-up in others. This should, in fact be done for all children as all learn at different rates but there appears to be a mindless desire to get all the ducks walking at the same pace and perfectly in-step. Humans are not like this naturally. Medication is, in my view, also not the first solution to think of - if at all. Once you get your assessment done, I think you will find (based on the "symptoms" you described) that there is - indeed - another set of solutions. Please let us know what the result of the assessment is and then we can suggest other interventions or solutions to offer the teacher that will make life easier for everyone.

Hi

This is Mary Tawadros an Integrated Learning Therapy Practitioner. I am in Francistown Botswana. I can help those close by, concerning neurological assessment .  We do a complete assessment .It is a clinical assessment to see how all body systems function tracing any neurological immaturity which has a direct effect on lack of concentration, task completion, dyslexia, poor reading, spelling ,math,....We treat the cause of this  neurological immaturity and not symptoms using a home based program. I would recommend you going to our site www.ilt.co.za/index.html it is fully explained.,If you need any explanation ,please contact me.
You are welcome to refer any cases in francistown.

Thanks for lovely topics and all your tips.
Best regards,

Hi

Thanks for the reply. We keep medication as a last resort with ADD ,ADHD and lack of concentration.
The main treatment is by a home based therapy including special activities tailored to each child based on our clinical assessment. It takes about 4 weeks for Neuron pathways to shoot to the brain on condition activities are done DAILY and correct.
Results have been amazing with many school kids, it is also a brilliant way to stimulate autistic kids, not a treatment as you know. I used it with a child with Down Syndrome and a Uraemic Syndrome results were very encouraging and rewarding.

Enjoy the site and it is my great pleasure to share or do any phone consultations..

Regards Mary
